Bonita are a blast to catch! They are known for fast bursts and screaming drag when hooked! Today, the waters were alive with Bonita feeding frenzies. Dave and I went out about 2 miles from the beach today trolling dusters and a artificial. Dave hooked up to a nice one early on and started the day off with a bang! We ended up landing around 7 Bonita in a little under four hours along with a nice Cero Mackerel. It was another successful day on the emerald coast as the fishing seems to remain strong even with the unusually warm water temperatures. Until next time - Tight Lines!

We launched at 9:00am and were welcomed again by beautiful, clear water and calm winds. I was especially excited about trying out my new home-made livebait rig and trolling two rods at once since the wind/current was calm. We made our way off the beach and past the second sandbar. It wasn't 5 minutes until we heard screaming drag...FISH ON, FISH ON...then the line went limp-he didn't find the hooks. That had us fired up and ready for more! We bagan working our way around the various reefs tro...

"After work" fishing trips are always a nice way to end the day and can be a great way to fish that always productive late afternoon spike in the fishing forecast. Mike had the day off and headed to the beach before us to get a jump start on the late afternoon trip while Dave and myself put in a full day's work at our real job and then headed out to meet up! Clouds and a nice breeze made for a much deserved lull in the Florida summer heat; it was enjoyable to say the least! We made our way ou...

This is what it is all about!! My family was in town for the fourth and so naturally, we scheduled a kayak fishing trip! My dad and younger brother,Jackson met up at my house early this morning and we headed out. Thanks to my mom for the great kayak trailer, we were able to bring all three Hobies to the launch! The water was ALIVE with fish today! Although rough and blown out, we made the best of the situation hooking up to several fish. Jackson spotted a school of Jack Crevalle near my dad's... Mike and I headed to Hogtown today once again in search of a nice red or speckled trout. Shady weather and a poor fishing forecast had us throwing every combination of lures we could think of to catch a fish. Six straight hours and only two bites! Finally, Mike spotted a dead "LY" bait that was floating on the surface. He put it on a half ounce jig-head and what do you know...I look over and Mike's hooked up! It turned out to be a nice spec! Gongrats again bud!

Mike and I decided to hit the Choctawhatchee bay today! Our target: the elusive Red Fish! We were on the water at 1:00 and the first cast produced a lady fish! It was a start to what we thought woud be a productive day! The bay was CALM as could be for the first ten minutes and then out of nowhere 30-40 mph winds and dark skies! We were not about to let a summer storm ruin our fishing trip so, we waited it out near a shallow beach. It soon passed and we were back at it. A couple catfish and...

So, my father in law, Neal, drove in early from Montgomery for an all day kayak fishing trip. We both were excited to spend the day fishing together so we headed out to my usual spot. Around 11:00 Neal had his first hit and within about 10 minutes we had a Snapper in the fish bag. This was Neal's first kayak snapper so he was thrilled to have bagged one so early (congrats again)! The day slowed down quite a bit from there though. The bites became few and far between until finally I look over ...

Every day that I get to fish is a GOOD day even if we don't catch much. But, there are some days that are GREAT and unforgettable; June 1, 2010 was just that! Mike Howe and I hit the water early at about 6:40 in the morning and were welcomed by calm, crystal clear water! We headed out South West toward the shelf and in no time we were catching fish! A 27 inch Grouper and an 18 inch Red Snapper were our first two catches followed by a Sand Shark that Mike hooked up to! Talk about a kid in a ca...

I know everone is especially excited about this year's Snapper season for a couple reasons. First, this may be the last fishable season in the Gulf of Mexico for a long time! With the oil drifting aimlessly about in our federal waters, the unknown is killing us! When will it get here? Is it going to get here? How bad is it? These are questions on every fisherman's mind right now so optimism is the key word! Also, I know everyone that has been bottom fishing this year has hauled up HUGE Red Sn... Continue reading...
